I have always been the creative-type, picking up hobbies over the years, such as painting, drawing, sewing, knitting, filmmaking, scrapbooking, origami, poetry, baking… I could go on, if you want me to?
And so, when the time came, at the ripe age of 18 to pick a career, I decided I wanted to study marketing at college. I didn’t really know why, and I still don’t really know what I want to do with my life – stay with me.
At the time, it felt like such a broad subject, I studied accounting, law, economics, marketing strategy, traditional marketing, digital marketing, public relations, and more. This was great, because I couldn’t decide what interest of mine to pursue. I’ve always been this way. Interested in way too many things, and not wanting to be boxed in.
I firstly studied a Bachelor of Business in Marketing, graduating in 2019 with a 2:1. I followed this degree up with a Master of Science in Digital Marketing Strategy, graduating in 2023 with a 1:1.
Having worked as an in-house marketer for the past five years, I’ve learned A LOT. I was able to flex my creative muscles in those years, but maybe not as much as I’d like. This is where freelancing comes in – I’m able to work with lots of different businesses and people, who have different goals, which allows me to really work those creative muscles.
From previous roles, I’ve gained a lot of marketing knowledge. I have experience in digital marketing and events in the hospitality industry. I’ve helped build and flesh out a website in the health and wellness space. But, more recently, I worked as a content marketing specialist for a B2B SEO software company, where I was able to expand my content portfolio extensively.
Back to not really knowing what I want to do with my life – one thing I know for sure, is that I love creating. And, what I love most about being a digital marketer, is the creativity that comes with it. Maybe that’s my answer?
