Creating coursework

In my time as a Learning & Development specialist at Moz, I created educational content for users of the Moz Pro tools, and for people who wanted to learn about SEO concepts.

One of the biggest projects I worked on, was the Keyword Research Certification, available on Moz Academy.

I created this course from scratch, which involved the following skills and responsibilities:

  • Research
  • Planning & ideation
  • Organisation
  • Time management
  • Presentation deck creation
  • Instructional design
  • Video recording
  • Video editing
  • Audio recording
  • Audio editing

The Certification is a 5-part series focused on the fundamentals of keywords, audience analysis, a keyword research strategy, and tracking and monitoring keyword success. It combines on-demand video lessons with tasks and quizzes. It includes approximately 4.5 hours of on-demand curriculum, in addition to activities to test the student’s understanding and the final exam. The expected total time commitment is about 5-7 hours in total.

The modules include:

  1. Part 1: Explore the Fundamentals of Keyword Research – This course covers the fundamentals of keywords, along with understanding keyword tracking and rankings.
  2. Part 2: Get To Know Your Customer – This course covers researching keywords in order to get to know your audience. 
  3. Part 3: Create a Keyword Strategy – This course covers how to create a keyword model, and setting up an effective way to track your rankings.
  4. Part 4: Track Your Success & Next Steps – This course covers monitoring your progress, scaling your research, and alternative aspects of a keyword strategy.
